The Race: Canada's pair of late season World Tour races, the GP de Québec and GP de Montréal, are called the Laurentian Classics. Until today, no rider has been able to win both races in the same year. Simon Gerrans has done it, winning both races with a punch that makes him a serious contender for the World Cahmpionships later this month.
The day's break went away on the first lap and there were escapees, notably World Champion Rui Costa, dangling off the front until the final kilometers. But Orica-GreenEdge still had a lot of firepower and wasn't afraid to use it.
The Australian team first worked to unify the peloton and then gave Gerrans a perfect leadout.
After the race Gerrans had this to say, “I couldn’t have asked any more of the team again today. We set out a plan at the start of the day, everyone followed it perfectly and the race unfolded exactly as we wanted.
“To still have four or five teammates there coming into the final was amazing so I am just really happy to be able to finish off some great teamwork again.”
